Sometimes dog owners just want their dogs to stop barking. Carla has a German Shephard, Bronco, who is gentle inside her home and to her two pre-school kids. But the moment Bronco notices something move in their neighbor’s garden – the neighbour’s cats – he gets on a barking warpath. Any responsible dog owner would have to do something right away. Carla asked her friends who had similarly big dogs. She was told to look into shock collars.
Dogs bark for various reasons, and that’s normal, but that needs to be suppressed when one lives in a community with strict rules. Among these conditions, the no bark ordinances can be a headache for some dog owners. Those who violate these end up shouldering fines. Throw in the stress and discomfort at having a disobedient dog. That creates tensions between neighbours. Carla wanted a dog training regimen and deviec that would provide quick and lasting results. As a mother of two, and with full-time work, she doesn’t have much time to spend on training Bronco.
Shock collars belong to a category of no bark collars that include spray and ultrasonic. These types release a harmless fluid and a high-pitched tone, respectively. The sound is only irritating to dogs, since it’s beyond the human range of hearing. When your dog barks, the no bark collar triggers. No-bark collars of the high quality build are able to discriminate between a dog’s bark and any other loud auditory input from the dog’s immediate surroundings.
The shock collar appealed to Carla. The low voltage shock is just startling enough to stop the dog’s unruly behaviour. What she needed, upon reflection, was a unit that did not break easily – she has a large dog that loves to play. She was happy to find out, after a quick online search, that waterproof collars were available, with controls dog’s rowdy movements can’t tamper with.
Should Bronco ever get used to the intensity of the electric shock, enough to endure or ignore it, Carla knows, from research, about the adjustments in intensity levels. Nowadays, Carla enjoys a lot of quiet time at home – thanks to her wise decision to look into shock collars. Bronco is now so tame he gets more attention than before.
