If you are trying to think of the most enjoyable season for dogs and their owners is probably summer.Walking conditions are perfect during the warm mornings and dusky evenings.Nothing can beat an early morning or evening walk with your four legged friend.A good walk is great for your health, and your dog will also benefit from the exercise and fresh air. But there are a few dangers around during the summer months that every dog owner should be aware of.

BBQs

We all love the taste of food cooked al fresco over hot coals. It is common that when you are outside cooking your dog will be enjoying the garden with you.But did you realise that having your dog around a BBQ can be very dangerous. The worst case scenario is that the dog does not even realise the barbeque is hot until it is too late. And a lively dog may easily bump into the BBQ, injuring or burning itself. Plus, human food cooked on a BBQ is not actually very healthy for a dog.Your pooch may well love the taste of a grilled hamburger and will probably end up begging for more. This type of human food offer no nutritional value and will lead to your dog continuously asking for food from your plate.Instead, offer him a tasty bowl of his favourite dog food. And of course you need to keep a look out for small bones. If you feed your dog a chicken wing or drumstick there is a high risk of choking.

Water

Water is an essential part of your dog’s daily nutritional routine. As the months get warmer it becomes even more important.Make sure that you offer a bowl full of clean, fresh water with every bowl of food and when you are out and about take a bottle of water and a bowl with you.Your dog will be grateful of the drink!

Hot Cars

If it is hot outside you should never, ever leave your dog locked in the car, even for what you believe will be a matter of minutes.A hot car can be fatal for a dog.Animal Friendly Sun Screen

Dogs are as vulnerable to the sun’s rays as humans. You can now but dog friendly sun tan lotion that is formulated to protect against sunburn. The areas with a thin coat of fur can be easily affected, so pay attention to the ears and nose. You can buy pet friendly sunscreen from your vet or local pet retailer.
