Apple’s iPhone has been very proud to publicise the fact that it has an ‘app’ for everything. Now, luckily for our furry friends, it seems there’s even an app for pet health care. These apps are perfect for pet owners who prefer mobile phones to computers as a way of finding information quickly.
The applications are all created very much with pet owners wanting quick, concise pet health care information in mind. The Pet First Aid app offers very handy snippets of easy to understand information and advice on pet health care.It also describes in a good level of detail how to carry out physical checks on your dog, giving you a better idea of what might be the problem. There is also a very informative ‘what’s normal’ area which allows pet owners to check to see if they should be concerned about a symptom or behaviour.
Similar to the first aid app is the mobile symptom checker. It works in a comparable way to its human equivalent, the NHS direct website, allowing users to search symptoms by category.
The Vet Records app helps pet owners to keep themselves updated on their animal’s pet health care records. Medical information is inputted and medical treatment can be tracked.Whilst this app may sound redundant, it is especially useful if a pet has to receive emergency treatment from a different vet to normal, for example on holiday.
The Pet Services finder app is great for pet health care enthusiasts. It is a cross between Google and the Yellow Pages and allows pet owners to find any animal service from vets to dog walkers to catteries in the local area.
Some of the other popular apps include the Off the Leash application which has details of pet friendly and interesting walks and the Vet Dictionary app which helps owners understand animal health jargon.
Overall, it is fair to say that technology really is making a huge difference to pet health care by making it more simple and more accessible to all.
