Several years ago, my sweet Schnauzer was hit by a car. Fortunately, she survived but had her hip badly broken. She was able to make it through the healing process fairly well, although she never seemed to get back to her full use. Comparing to her quality of lifestyle before the accident, it is evident that it has been drastically different by her slow moves. When going up and down the two steps from the patio to the backyard, she shows difficulty and seldom runs and plays. Pet Chiropractic
The other day, I can’t find Cherish and when I went looking for her, I discovered her cowering under the bed. When I was told that this was a sign that the pet is in pain, I got very concerned about her.
A trip to the Animal Fitness Center led us down the path to finding out what was wrong with Cherish. Dr. Ava Frick informed us that Cherish had been enduring pain from arthritis. I never imegined that my dog would be suffering from arthritis. Somehow, I thought it was something that only humans had to deal with.
Arthritis is actually an inflammation of a joint, and often painful, which was explained by Dr. Frick. Arthritis leads to the wear and tear to joins through the natural aging process. She said that the arthritis was aggravated by being hit by the car years ago. And it will almost certainly be worse when if there has been any injury.
She said that an injury will cause the joint to have irregular surfaces or cause problems on how two bones meet within in a joint oftentimes. I cannot imagine this caused more wear and tear. Without the smooth, flexible cartilage being present, bone-on-bone contact can cause additional pain.
NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are sometimes helpful for pets with arthritis and cortisone could also be used to reduce pain and inflammation, Dr. Frick explained.
Also know to treating arthritis are certain dietary supplements including hose that contain glucosamine, chondroitin sulfate, or MSM. A veterinarian with expertise in these areas is quite difficult to find. Scheduling an appointment with Dr. Frick at Animal Fitness Center if you reside near Union, Missouri is highly recommended. Her work of wonders reduced Cherish’s arthritis pain and symptoms drastically, giving my dog a much happier life. Pet Joint Pain
