When you’re shopping for a good pet dog door, be aware of how that one installation affects your home’s security. When you think about it, most of the dog doors are only plastic flaps in a frame under the door. Supposing sturdier materials are used in higher quality flaps, it’s still an extra egress for you to worry about. If you’re seriously thinking about buying a pet dog door, here are some considerations to keep in mind.

How big the door is. Since you want only your dog to come in and out, then the door should fit only your pet. One problem with having big dogs is the corresponding dog door size – if it fits them, it will also fit a smaller person. Whoever can fit in that dog door could be anyone – your child, someone else’s, or a short thief. The last incident you want is for a child to be stuck in your dog door. You will also have to worry about other animals coming in and out of your home – via that dog door. So it pays to determine the right height for your doggie door.

Where to place it. Although it seems to be convenient to place your dog door on your front door, that practically announces to the world there’s a smaller, less secure entrance to your house. Many dog owners choose to install their pet doors on their backdoor, which usually leads to a secure backyard. At the very least, on some other door apart from your very visible front door. You don’t want to give thieves ideas.

What type you need. Traditional flap-type doors come also in versions where the door is made of harder plastic. There are also several lock settings to choose from. The door can be set up to swing towards the inside of your house, or outside; or towards on direction only, and then locks itself. One side setting means when your dog gets in, or out, that’s it. This lock setting could lock your pet inside or outside your home – your pet will be safe inside, but oversights happen and it could be left outside, in the cold, overnight. An automatic pet dog door is actually a long-term investment in both pet and home safety. In this set up, your dog wears a collar with a device that the door can detect when near; the door opens only when the dog is near. Having a doggie door is a great benefit for both owner and pet – you won’t have to worry about accidental potty incidents (should your dog be kept inside the house for too long), and the dog can feel free to come and go as it pleases.

Although they are found in lots of households, pet birds often remind people of how being caged or trapped feels like. It seems such a cruelty on the side of men to make pet birds spend so much of their lives confined to a small space. They should be singing in trees and flying up in the sky, not decorate your kitchen or greenhouse. Yet, we keep them indoors because they look colorful, they say some witty words or they sing nicely.

Pet birds are different from this perspective from any other types of pets. They suffer no comparison with cats or dogs, that seem to have an innate ability of turning into man’s companions. Many people take parrots for pet birds just because they were smitten by an unexpected ‘Hello’ when entering a pet shop. Yet, they make such choices without being aware of the full implications of having such animals around the house. Did you know there are parrot species that can live up to 100 years?

Moreover, the perspective of such long captivity is terrible It’s sad, it’s appalling and inhumane. And if you think otherwise, you are incredibly selfish or ignorant. So, yes, I’m saying a big NO to pet birds. They should enjoy their freedom just as you enjoy yours! They can make life a lot more beautiful from the branch of a tree. There’s no room for pet birds in a family kitchen. If you think you’ll make kids happy with such an ‘asset’, think again! You’ll just teach them no respect for life and freedom.

No flying creature makes good pets. You can’t play or have fun with pet birds. People usually buy them as decorative ’staff’. If you are such a great nature lover, then, go to the forest, to a national park and admire animals and birds in their free splendor, but don’t take pet birds.

If the tone of this article sounds too critical, I’m sorry, but I think it is time we woke up and looked around us. Environmental awareness may start precisely in your family kitchen. Teach your children respect for nature and all God’s creatures. If more people started thinking like this, there would be fewer environment problems and more balance in this world. May you have a wonderful and natural life!

As you would expect from a product called the invisible dog fence, you can’t see it or even touch it, but you’ll definitely notice the difference it makes when it keeps your dog from leaving the area you set up for it. This unique fence system is designed to prevent your dog from straying, being a nuisance to your neighbors and safe from accident or attack by other animals. The fense is not only very original and innovative, but it’s also cheap when compared to the the price of installing a traditional fence. And unlike a traditional wooden or metal fence, an invisible dog fence won’t change the look of your house or obstruct the view from inside.

You should definitely get an invisible dog fence if the cost of a traditional one is out of your posibilities or if the area where you live has strict rules about the installation of traditional fences. There are some highly effective invisible dog fences available today, so you can easily choose one that suits your needs and budget.

Choose a Hi-Tech Option

One of the most popular invisible dog fence options available today is the “radio electric” dog fence. It was specifically designed to keep your dog inside an area that you establish for it. This fence has two main elements, a transmitter and a radio reciever (located in the dog’s collar).

How the Fence Works

The invisible dog fence comes with an electric wire that’s connected to the transmitter and that’s buried underground in the limits of the dog’s area of movement. This fence system works by giving out a beeping signal which is received by your dog’s radio collar, each time it (the dog) gets too close to the fence. If your dog still chooses to ingnore the warning sound and tries to cross the barrier, the collar will give it a mild shock. You can always adjust the intensity of the shock so that it’s not too strong or too mild.

This fence has shown results in keeping dogs inside, except in the case where the dog has a very long or very thick fur. If your dog has that type of hair, then you are going to have to shave its neck a bit. Otherwise, the dog might not feel the shock at all.

The invisible dog fence will teach your dog a bit of discipline while it keeps it inside your property at all times. Although it cannot be seen by your dog or anyone else, the results will be clearly visible to you.

If you own pets, you’re probably immediately worry if they don’t come home when you expect them to. Dogs, for one, may wander too far off from where their owners live. They could get hit by a car, eat unhealthy food from trash, or fail to find their way home. Traditional wooden fences is one way to keep your pets inside your property. Still, this kind of pet fencing has its own set backs.

It’s possible one could underestimate the resourcefulness of dogs, and forget they might find ways to scale the fence or squeeze through it. Your dog could get hurt while trying to scale it, dig under, or claw the fences. If you have a full-time job, you might also find it inconvenient to take time off or devote many weekend hours to installing the wooden fence yourself. If you decide to push on by yourself, you’ll have to do much of the materials and tools shopping yourself. After sawing each fence post, you have to use a digger tool to make sure a third of the post is buried. Despite your efforts, you have no guarantee the dog will not be able to hurt himself while trying to get over or through the fence you erected.

You could of course hire a contractor to do these yourself. But such digging might not be allowed, especially when you are only renting the place you live in. In some areas, community ordinances are in place which prohibited putting up such fences.

Invisible pet containment systems can do the job better, without ruining the landscape and costing you fees in violations of those rules. There are several available ways in which pet fencing works for you and your pet. The kind of set up most employed makes use of wires buried around a perimeter. Your dog is supposed to wear a collar tracked by the system. When your dog approached the boundaries set, usually planted with marker flags, a warning sound is emitted by the collar. A static correction is activated when the dog continues to walk past the boundaries.

In another pet fencing, there are no wires around the area. One uses radio signals sent from a central source “marks” the area via the radius or range of reach of the transmission. As with the previous system, the collar sends out a warning prior to a static shock when the dog tries to escape from the perimeter.

Training your dog to mind the warning and heed the shocks are needed. Whatever the cast, it is up to the dog owner.

If you’re getting tired of “serving” your cat, of opening the front door every time it wants to go outside, then simply have a cat door installed. The simplest cat doors, or cat flaps are just plastic flaps – easily blown open by the wind unless weighed down, or installed with a magnet. The flap could also be replaced with harder materials, but the principle is the same – when your cat gets used to the door, it uses it to go out and come back in as it pleases. Knocked over items, scratched furniture, potty accidents – these are some of the problems cat owners avoid when they have cat doors installed in their homes.

Unless you own many pets of varying size – big dogs and cats – you only need a cat door that’s right for your cat’s size.
It’s common for both animals to use the same flap.
All they have to do is push on the flap to open it. Now, there are lock settings on flaps, such as towards the inside of your house, or outside it. But this does not limit other animals – rodents, racoons, squirrels, cats and dogs you don’t own – from entering your house. You need a more sophisticated type of cat door for that.

Electronic or automatic doors are meant to keep away other animals from entering your house – actually the same principle works on small kids and burglars. You will find the same configuration in many electronic dog doors – a special collar and a special door. The collar, when near the cat door, triggers the door into opening or unlocking, allowing your cat to get in or out, but not other animals. You don’t want uninvited animals in your house – stealing food, pooping on your carpet, and stressing out your cat. The door opens (slides up in some models with electric motors) or unlocks upon “sensing” an infrared, radio, or magnetic device on your cat’s collar.

You may need to train your cat to use the cat door. Take your cat close to the flap and show it how the flap opens, and that it opens to the world outside. If you chose the electronic door, as opposed to the traditional ones, make sure your cat wears the special collar – a sensor – that triggers the electronic door to open. Your cat has to get used to the event – of the door’s opening – as linked to his vicinity to it. If your cat is shy, you can use treats to entice it to get close to the cat door.

If you love your dog, then you must be worried when it’s not home all day. They may come back day after day, but what they come back with wounds? The worst part is that some don’t come back at all. It’s time to consider putting up a dog fence. Contrary to what some dog owners may think, this pet containment system is actually worth the money, as you will see.

The fence is not visible to the naked eye

An dog fence essentially aims to prevent your dog from leaving the designated area. It may be possible to keep your dog from leaving your house, if you lock him in, the same effect a physical, prison-like, fence is said to achieve. The inconvenience there is even if you pay contractors to install the physical fence, your dog might find away to scale it, or injure himself trying. Even if you set it up to be electrically charged, that’s impractical in urban settings – not to mention dangerous.

An electronic fence is the practical alternative. This set up can work in several ways. The most popular is for wires to be buried in the boundaries of the area where you don’t want your dog to leave. The dog wears a collar with a device that emits a distinct warning sound every time the dog approached the boundaries. Should the dog continue to leave the area, it gets a static correction. With some training, the dog is deterred from leaving the area – despite there being no physical obstacle preventing it from leaving.

Other pet containment systems also work in the same way. In one set up, radio signals are sent from a central location. When the dog leaves a specified radius, the collar it wears sends out a warning, and later on a shock. Another way is to rely for marking the area and tracking the dog on the Global Positioning System. Both of these methods do not involve burying wires around the area.

Aesthetic and humanitarian benefits of electronic dog fences

Renters are usually constrained by their contracts – meaning they may not be able to put up physical fences if they want to, to keep their dogs inside. In some localities, there are laws prohibiting physical fences from being installed. Electronic dog fences bypasses these conditions and keeps your dog safe. You won’t have to disturb the ground much, with the installation, and neither will your dog look like a prisoner. Your dog can run around without its view partially hidden by anything.

With an dog fence, you can be sure your dog won’t wander off, get lost, or hurt himself outside.
