So you are going to get a new puppy. Before you do, it is good to do a little bit of preparation. The first thing you should do is some research on some different kinds of dogs. This is good to find out about temperments, and habits. You also have to think about how big of dog you want. This is important if they will be staying with you indoors. Bigger dogs do more damage than little ones can do because of their size.
It can be easy to forget that your new dog will be completely unfamiliar with the new enviroinment. This means that they have no regard to anything you consider valuable. Valuable items will need to be put out of thier reach unless you want them to be obliterated. If you have expensive furniture, then you will have to take care in order to avoid it being chewed on.
The first thing that you want to do when you get a new dog is to spoil them. It is hard not to because after all, they won your heart over in the pet store just a couple of hours ago. So when it comes to pampering your dog, the best place to look is on the internet. The reason is because there is much more variety to look at then at the local pet store. You can also do more price shopping. The first thing your pooch will need is a designer dog beds. Make sure that you get one that is a good fit for your dog. Most sites will show the dimensions of the bed you are going to purchase. Then you will need to get a gorgeous dog collars and a good leash. You will of course want to get some fun dog toys immediately to curb the tendency to chew on things they shouldn’t chew on. After that you will need to find some good bowls for food and water. Last, don’t forget the food and some good wholesome treats.
Then it is time to begin teaching your new puppy. Potty training is usually the first instruction you will give them and it is quite understandable. Nobody likes cleaning up a mess off of their floor. Many people like to paper train at first, but I do not. The way I like to do it is to keep an eye on them until they begin to squat. Right as they begin to squat, use a short command word such as “stop” to get their attention and stop. Then get them outside quickly. Once they go potty outside give them a treat as a reward. For leash training carry some treats in your pocket. As your dog begins to rush ahead of you stop and call them back to you. Then guide them to your side. Reward them every time they do this and it won’t be long until they will keep pace with you at your side.
